A PR Campaign to Publicize Sailing Race, Nonprofit Fundraiser
Aqua was engaged by Star Island to craft a public relations strategy to support the 2012 Gosport Regatta at the Isles of Shoals. The June regatta is the resurgence of a vintage sailing race first held in the late 19th century and now serves as the largest annual fundraiser for Star Island.
Aqua designed a communications plan to boost awareness of the organization, build relationships, and inspire community involvement and public support for the island’s historic buildings and landscapes. The PR plan supported the defined fundraising goals and objectives of the weekend event and included media relations planning and outreach, community relations, marketing, social media, and logistics planning.
Thirty-eight boaters participated in the race and more than 300 attended the sold-out post-race island reception in Gosport Harbor. The public relations event was featured on WMUR’s NH Chronicle.
We signed on with Aqua to enhance media relations for our organization’s signature event and got so much more than the typical PR plan and a few media releases. Before the ink was dry on the page Michelle had created a facebook page for the event and sent the first couple of tweets from her twitter account. And what a ride! Michelle was the best partner one could hope for – networking with her connections, joining me in the tasks that needed attention, pumping up energy during the final sprint to the finish line, maintaining course on a very short timeline. Add to that the creativity that Michelle brings to her work and voila! Success in every sense of the word.
